It has recently been brought to my attention that my research had been cited in conjunction with an auction website listing attributing two portraits to Lyman Parks.
I have spent over fifteen years researching this artist. It has been the subject of my book chapter “Unlocking the Mysteries of the Wilkinson Limner” and my magazine article “Mr. Willson of NH and His Remarkable Watercolors.”
Based on my extensive research, in my opinion, the sitters illustrated there are not only misidentified, they are portraits I would not necessarily associate with his hand.
Nor can I speak to the Emily Esser citation as I know little of her background qualifications or rationale for weighing in on these matters.
